The Weir Strings program is currently not in session.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Strings has been an important part of the elementary school experience for students at Dr. George M. Weir for many years.
A new PAC-run strings program, started in mid-September 2017, replaced the VSB's Elementary Strings Program that was cancelled beginning of 2016/2017 school year due to budget cuts.
The PAC has found a local private music instructor who has a passion for music and is willing to take part in teaching the new program. It runs like other before- and after-school activities, in that it is outside of the VSB's mandate and control, but utilizes space at the school via the facilities rental program.
The program is currently opened to Grades 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 students. Lessons are taught in a structured program designed by the instructor that focuses on both technical development and enjoyment of music in a collaborative and fun environment.
Parent involvement is crucial for successful learning. Parents whose child is registered in the program need to be available for minimum of 2 lessons during the year to help set up and pack up the room for maximum learning experience.
The program includes 2 morning practices/lessons per week throughout the school year, a winter concert, and a spring concert.
